Badgers have been spotted snuffling through gardens across Watford, prompting a flurry of posts on Facebook groups.
Sightings were reported among the community, with residents sharing photos and videos of the animals. Some welcome the visitors, describing them as “cute” and a joy to see wildlife thriving close to home, while others were less impressed.
Complaints included freshly dug holes, damaged lawns, and flowerbeds turned upside down. One resident commented: “A bit of a nuisance when they burrow into the footing of your property.”
The RSPCA reminded residents that badgers are a protected species and should not be harmed or disturbed.
Instead, residents are advised to secure fences, cover holes, and admire the animals from a distance.
A spokesperson for the RSPCA said: “One of the kindest things you can do for badgers is to share your outdoor space.
“They can be nervous of humans, though, and have an excellent sense of smell. So, to observe them, it’s best to stay downwind and keep quiet so they won’t be disturbed.”
