On the KISS breakfast show last month, listeners were asked “What’s the weirdest thing you have ever seen in a vending machine?”
Joe from Ruislip phoned in to say: “One of my local farms has an egg vending machine!”
Ducks Hill Farm, based in Northwood, launched its egg vending machine in 2021 and today has six other locations where you can purchase eggs: The Manor Butchery in Ruislip Manor, Bread of Life Bakery in Pinner, Meat Like It Used To Be in Rickmansworth, The Green Stores in Croxley, RefillAbell in Watford, and Fruity Fresh in Northwood.
Joe from Ruislip may have to call in to KISS again because the machines are now also offering honey.
Representative of the farm Oliver Cooke told Northwood & Ruislip News: “Honey has always made sense as a future addition to our vending machine as long as we had a reliable, good, local source and Caroline’s Apiary fits the bill. We have hives at Ducks Hill and I hope that a good proportion of the honey which is in our vending machine will be able to come from the farm in future.
“The vending machine has gone from strength to strength, and this is thanks to the continued and growing support of our customer base. We started with 300 laying hens in early 2021 and this has grown to almost 2,200 hens all using the same free-range pasture-raised method.
“The continued success of the vending machine has also allowed us to give back to the local community. So far in 2024, we have donated over 20,000 eggs to food banks at Emmanuel Church in Northwood and St James’s Church in Watford, as well as New Hope in Watford.”
