A Kings Langley man charged his clients more than £60,500 while pretending to be a solicitor.
Dean Charnley, 44, of Ovaltine Court, was charged with fraud by false representation. He pleaded guilty at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Friday, February 14.
He was charged after allegedly accepting money to act as a solicitor for two people but failing to do the legal work they paid for.
The crime is said to have happened on or between August 1, 2018, and June 2019, in Kings Langley.
Charnley was due to be sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Friday, March 7, as KINGSnews goes to print, and until then has been granted unconditional bail.
Hertfordshire Police shared tips on how to identify potential fraud, including being sceptical, never giving your banking details to anyone you don’t know, and reporting all scams.
