Pumpkin’s Wildlife Hospital in Rickmansworth is celebrating the success of its fox cub programme.
The hospital takes in sick or injured wildlife and nurses the animals back to health before releasing them back into the wild.
In 2025, this has included 30 fox cubs, three of whom were orphaned after their mother was killed in a road traffic accident. The cubs are kept in a soft release pen, built by Ricci Guinchard, who featured in last month’s Ricky News ahead of his charity skydive. This gives the cubs the freedom to explore while still keeping them safe.
Fundraising lead Sarah Arnold told Ricky News: “We have just released our 30 fox cubs we raised this season, back to the wild. They go in pens for soft release for around four weeks until they are used to their new environment, then we let them out.”
The hospital is currently appealing for donations of wet cat and dog food, kitten biscuits, large strong black sacks, disposable gloves, blue roll, puppy pads, newspaper and large towels. These can be ordered via their Amazon wishlist at www.shorturl.at/gs11L and left in the donation box outside the centre.
