A man who stole thousands of pounds’ worth of cosmetics from a London Colney store was jailed for more than six months at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, September 25.
Daniel McDonagh, 21, of Peacock Court, Hemel Hempstead, was arrested after being identified on CCTV at Boots in London Colney on Thursday, April 10.
The magistrate found McDonagh guilty of stealing £7,761.56 worth of make-up and he was sentenced to 26 weeks’ imprisonment.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Hannah McLaughlin said: “We work closely with the shops in London Colney to help prevent and catch shoplifters. McDonagh was caught on CCTV concealing the cosmetics under his jacket and in his pockets. The magistrate took into account his previous shoplifting offending, which included a penalty of 12 months’ unpaid work in June this year and a five-week suspended sentence in January this year.”
She added: “I hope this sentence deters other opportunist thieves from stealing from our local stores. The impact of shoplifting affects us all.”
