A Northwood parent has protested over the charges for using tennis courts at a local park.
The courts at Northwood Recreation Ground were refurbished in early 2023 through grants provided by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
It currently costs £5 per hour to book one of the five courts.
However, Anca Hora states her belief that the price is preventing people from using the courts.
Speaking to Northwood & Ruislip News, she said: “These tennis courts were once a place where families, children, parents and teenagers used to spend quality time playing tennis together.
“I understand that the council wants to get the money back from the recent refurbishment, but charging hourly to play tennis is wrong.
“How is this the council encouraging families to spend time in the fresh air instead of watching TV and playing games on computers?”
A spokesperson for Hillingdon Council said: “The small fee and gate access system were introduced in line with other local authorities and guidance from the LTA to allow us to reinvest in our tennis facilities, maintaining the excellent quality courts with regular cleaning and maintenance services, while reducing anti-social behaviour and improper use.
“We want all our residents to have the opportunity to live active and healthy lives and be able to enjoy high-quality green spaces and leisure activities. We offer a range of free tennis programmes and activities to help make tennis more accessible.”
