The Royal Masonic School for Girls (RMS) in Rickmansworth has achieved Eco-Schools Green Flag Status for the third year running.
RMS’ Eco Committee consists of students from across the Senior School and Sixth Form who work together to enhance the school’s care for the environment. The students meet every Tuesday lunchtime to plan events, develop initiatives and seek ways to promote environmental awareness.
The initiatives they have helped to champion include using cameras to track and learn about the school’s on-site wildlife, organising clothing swaps, and tending to RMS’ on-site beehive.
The school said: “We’re proud to be a forward-thinking school that actively promotes youth-led environmental education and action. Congratulations to every member of the RMS Eco Committee for their dedication.”
The Eco-Schools programme provides a seven-step framework to empower young people to make a difference in their local community. Since 1994, millions of young people around the world have worked through the programme before being recognised with an Eco-Schools Green Flag.
