FOR CHARLIE: Annual Hemel charity gig raises more money than ever before

The third edition of the annual Gig in the Garden in Hemel Hempstead has raised more money for a local charity than ever before.

First organised two years ago by a group of musicians from the town, each event has raised more than the previous year’s iteration, and the 2024 edition was no exception.

With £1,300 raised in 2022 and £2,000 in 2023, this year’s concert raised an incredible £3,281. The proceeds will go towards local children’s charity Charlie’s Gift, which provides monetary support to disadvantaged youths across the Three Counties.

The gig, held in organiser Talia Dussek’s back garden in Boxmoor, took place on Saturday, August 31, and featured a variety of local bands taking to the stage.

Some of these included returning acts, such as medley group Rhys Lightning and Hemel Hempstead School’s 2017 Funk Band Reunited, while rock groups Hotwife and On The Fence made their debut.

Also playing were the House Band, consisting of Talia, Joe Hutchings, Joe Reed-Hook, Evan Hancock and Olly Dyer, and they were also joined by various other friends as well.

Speaking after the event, Talia said: “That was so much fun! Thank you guys for absolutely showing up. You gave us energy, you gave us vibes and you gave generously!”
