Alex Paine has a rather special assignment this week when he joins up with a 16 man squad to fly to the Falkland Islands to play for a Football Association XI representative side.
The Chalfont St Peter midfielder will travel 8,000 miles during the 20 hour journey across the South Atlantic alongside other selected Step 4 players.
The team, led by England C manager Paul Fairclough, will leave for the British territory from RAF Brize Norton on Wednesday, November 7 for the week long trip.
Taking to Twitter the club wished him all the best: “A great honour for the club to hear that Alex Paine has been called up by the FA for an ambassadorial trip to the Falkland Islands in November. A once in a lifetime opportunity that is much deserved.”
The full squad, which has primarily been selected from Step 4 leagues, is: Charlie Ruff (Hertford Town), Carl Pearce (Northwood), Harry Curtis (St Paul’s, Jersey), Liam Ferdinand (Bracknell Town), Ibrahim Olutade (Hanwell Town), Mitchell Parker (Reading City), Olly Spooner (Basildon United), Jonathan Lacey (Leverstock Green), Louis Tibbles (Bury Town), Leigh Bedwell (Didcot Town), Alex Brown (Buxton), Brendon Ocran (Barking), Alex Paine (Chalfont St Peter), Sam Ashford (Witham Town).
