FOODIE FUNDRAISER: Dinner at Berkhamsted Town Hall to raise money for new hospital campaign

A three-course dinner and presentation will be held at Berkhamsted Town Hall on Wednesday, September 27, to raise funds for the West Herts 21st Century Hospital Solution.

The dinner is part of a campaign, supported by the Berkhamsted District Chamber of Commerce, for a centrally located new hospital in West Hertfordshire.

This comes after full funding was approved for a new hospital to replace Watford General as part of the government’s New Hospital Programme. The new hospital is set to be built on land between the current site and Thomas Sawyer Way in Watford.

However, campaigners argue that this is not the best solution, and that instead a hospital should be built on a new site in West Hertfordshire.

Gordon Yearwood, lead of the project and an international hospital planner, and Sue Beardshaw, former Mayor of Berkhamsted, said: “Instead of planning for a far more accessible, 21st century hospital in a therapeutic environment, they plan to build a skyscraper hospital 20 metres taller than Grenfell Tower, on the cramped Watford General Hospital site, right next door to Watford football stadium, because it suits them.

“We are seeking your help to fight for a better future hospital solution for the people, one which puts the patients first.”

The cost of the dinner is £35 per person and bookings can be made by emailing or

West Herts Teaching Hospital NHS Trust has been contacted for comment.
