FOND FAREWELL: Families thank pioneering Montessori teacher

Lyndsey Nelson, the founder and manager of Beehive Montessori in Amersham, recently announced that the nursery would close its doors at the end of 2023.

Lyndsey has become a beloved figure in the local community during her time running the nursery, and here at AmershamNews, we were moved by the number of heartfelt tributes that poured into our inbox soon after the news was announced.

“It’s really sad to be closing Beehive, but I think it’s time,” Lyndsey explained. “There comes a time when it’s just too hard to bend down to tend to little people each and every day – my knees aren’t always happy with me!

“Children who came to the nursery a long, long time ago have got in touch to say how sad they are that Beehive is closing. It’s overwhelming, in a good way, and incredibly humbling.

“A group of parents are organising a reunion, and there are old staff coming, as well as my grown-up pupils. It’s going to be very emotional.”

When asked what’s next for her, Lyndsey replied: “I’m not going to stop working with children entirely. I’m going to start up an after-school club called Crafty Hive Club, and maybe there’ll be something for younger children in the future, too.

“It’s just so important that kids get a chance to relax and get away from screens. There need to be spaces where children don’t have to worry. It’s not easy for little or big people these days, you know.”

The Beehive Montessori celebration reunion will take place at St Michael’s Church Hall on Saturday, December 16.
