FLORAL FAIRE: Annual Ashridge plant fair returns with more than 100 plant varieties

Published on: 7th May 2024   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Ashridge House in Berkhamsted will host its annual plant fair later this month.

The fair was founded in 1997, when it involved just four stalls on Monument Green selling plants grown by local volunteers. The festival has now blossomed into a much-loved fixture in the local calendar.

Originally run by the National Trust, it was feared in 2018 that the fair would have to come to an end due to the lack of available staff, the traffic chaos caused by the event, and financial issues, much to the upset of many long-term participants.

Fortunately, Ashridge House stepped in, and since then the celebration has been held in the stately home’s beautiful gardens. The fair now raises money for the Ashridge Monument Trust.

This year’s fair will be held on Sunday, May 19, and will feature more than 100 different varieties of plant. It is expected that some of those who helped set up the original fair will attend the event this year.

Tickets for the Ashridge House National Garden Scheme Open Gardens day, including access to the plant fair, are available from this website.
