The local community recently came together to support a children’s book hunt in Berkhamsted.
Gergana Gerasimova is an Independent Usborne Partner who runs an online and pop-up bookshop called Tiny Sparks Children’s Books.
In October half term, she hosted a book hunt in Berkhamsted where more than 100 books were left around the town for children to find.
The hunt also took place in Apsley, Boxmoor and Kings Langley.
Ahead of the event, Gergana set up a JustGiving page to raise funds to buy books, with more than 100 purchased for the hunt.
The idea for the book hunt was born after Gergana learned that one in five children across the UK do not own a book at home.
She said: “I strongly believe that we as adults, parents or not, hold the responsibility to equip the younger generation with the right tools to become better than us. And it all starts with improving literacy.
“If a child seemingly has no interest in reading, chances are they have not found or been presented with the right book for them.”
“Together, we can improve literacy, light sparks of curiosity, and inspire children to dream.
“Everyone is welcome to keep the book they find, or read and hide it again for others to find.”
