An actress from Rickmansworth is the star of this year’s always highly anticipated John Lewis advert.
Margaret Clunie grew up in Hertfordshire and is best known for her role as Harriet in the ITV series Victoria and now has the leading role in The Giving Hour.
The retailer pinned this year’s advert on a situation that is all too common for many – last-minute shopping!
Margaret takes us on a journey through familial nostalgia, frantically searching for a gift for her sister.
She jumps through time searching for the breadcrumbs that will lead her to the perfect present.
This year’s advert seems stripped back – there is no trampolining dog or penguin companion – just a story of sisters through the good and bad times.
That being said, what has remained is the classic corporate attempt to provoke tears, all to the tune of an uplifting song; this year, it’s Sonnet by Richard Ashcroft.
The advert has had a mixed reaction from Christmas views, with some connecting to the message and others feeling that it missed the mark.
