A competition to design a new mural for Abbots Langley Community Centre has officially been launched.
The competition, hosted by the community centre, asks members of the public to submit designs for a new mural which will be painted on the centre’s inside wall.
Local artist Gaye Daniels has donated her time to paint the winning mural on the wall for free during the summer holidays.
Speaking to ABBOTSnews, Gaye shared: “I’m delighted to have my art being featured in the community centre. It gives me the opportunity to share my artwork with a wider community and to engage with the community.
“My art is vibrant and I’d like to think it has a positive effect. Art is good for the soul and I hope that when people look at the finished mural, they will experience a feel-good factor.”
Submissions should incorporate the history of Abbots Langley, activities in the community centre, or something else community-related.
Gaye added: “Communities are all about a sense of belonging and communicating with each other and I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to work and be with such a lovely community.”
Submissions are to be judged by Eryl McNally, chair of the community centre; Nik Allen, editor of ABBOTSnews; and Gaye herself.
The centre is also appealing for sponsors to pay for paint brushes and other supplies.
All entries should be sent to alccbookings@gmail.com by Monday, June 30.
