An Oxhey Ward councillor raised almost £3,000 for charity after taking on the London Marathon earlier this month.
Councillor Karen Clarke-Taylor ran the marathon on April 23 in support of charity Anthony Nolan, which finds donors for patients in need of life-saving stem cell transplants.
Speaking to WatfordNews, cllr Clarke-Taylor said: “Anthony Nolan is such an important charity to our family. Not only have we experienced their amazing work from the donor perspective, but I am also hugely grateful to the charity for finding a life-saving match for my friend Hannah, who needed a transplant to cure her leukaemia. They also found a match for a dear family friend, Simon.
“It felt like she [the donor recipient] became part of our family somehow. The cure for someone’s cancer can literally be in your body.”
Cllr Clarke-Taylor completed the marathon in three hours and 44 minutes and hopes that as well as raising money for the charity, she has also raised awareness of the importance of registering to be a donor.
She said: “I didn’t really go in with any expectations and didn’t set myself a target, and it all just came together on the day.”
