Admins of a Stanmore Facebook group with almost 8,000 members are using their platform to raise thousands for charity.
The Stanmore Group, which serves as a private place for local people living or working in and around the area to share information and news, doesn’t have a blanket ban on advertising like most groups do.
Instead, members who own local businesses can advertise on the 1st and 15th of every month by paying an annual fee of £10-minimum to St Luke’s Hospice.
Stanmore group admin Ilana Metzger told StanmoreNews: “It’s a system we’ve used for a few years, although in previous years we’ve not specified what charity people have to donate to, and the minimum spend was £2.
“But we’ve now decided to have members donate specifically to St Luke’s Hospice since we found out that they were having to cut specialist nurses due to funding cuts.”
The Stanmore Group has raised between £4,000-£5,000 for charity since it began the initial system several years ago.
Ilana added: “This is an amazing way serve the local community on multiple fronts. We’re allowing businesses to make themselves known to the Stanmore community and they do get a lot of traction from this, and in giving them this platform, we’re also raising funds for a fantastic local cause.
“Another initiative we’re working on is getting a new defibrillator to serve the area. We’ve got one now, we’re just looking for somewhere to put it.”
