A young fencer from Pinner has helped to make history after his team brought home the gold medal for the first time in British U20 Men’s Foil Fencing history.
Finn Keen, 17 (pictured right), has already made a name for himself, having secured several major trophies, awards and titles, including the coveted mylocalHero Young Sporting Achiever Award 2024.
His success continues as on Sunday, January 5, Finn, together with the GBR Men’s Junior Foil Team, secured his first-ever World Cup gold in Fujairah.
Speaking to Pinner news, Finn said: “Winning the gold medal at the Junior World Cup in Fujairah feels unreal! As part of the British U20 Men’s Foil Fencing Team, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved.”
Finn, together with Jaimie Cook and David Sosnov, faced nine other countries in the Coupe du Monde par équipes.
He continued: “At just 17, it’s an incredible feeling to make history and secure our first-ever gold in a team event. The final against China was intense, and the 45-40 win was so rewarding after all the hard work.
“This victory is a huge milestone for British fencing, and I’m excited for what the future holds. It’s an honour to represent my country and be part of something special!”
The team’s coach, Keith Cook, said: “Incredible achievement by the British Junior Men’s Foil team, making history with their victory at the Junior World Cup in Fujairah! So proud of this talented group for bringing home the gold – what a milestone for British fencing!”
Finn’s previous successes include winning gold at the European Fencing Confederation Cadet Foil event in Warsaw in September 2024, gold in the Cadet Men’s Foil at the CJ Nationals in 2023, and gold in the Team Cadet European Fencing Confederation in Warsaw in 2022.
