In a letter that was sent to Aldenham West councillor Caroline Clapper on Wednesday, October 1, Leader of HBC councillor Jeremy Newmark said: “I am pleased to be able to tell you that I have decided to bring forward a proposal to my Cabinet recommending that HBC both retain and invest in improving the car park.
“Following careful consideration of all options, I am proposing that the council does not sell, redevelop, or dispose of the land or the air rights associated with this important site. Instead, the focus will be on refurbishment and improvement, ensuring the facility continues to serve residents, visitors, and businesses.”
According to cllr Newmark, the planned works will include resurfacing and repair of the car park structure and surfaces, relining to improve accessibility, clarity and efficiency of space, and a programme of refurbishment works to upgrade the overall condition and safety of the site.
The plans are subject to Cabinet approval.
Following the announcement, cllr Clapper posted on Facebook: “I am extremely grateful to the hundreds of residents who attended the public meeting, the thousands who signed the petition, and, of course, to Aldenham Parish Council and Radlett Green Belt.
“Thanks, of course, must also go to cllr Newmark, for hearing the voices of residents and making the right decision for Radlett.”
