EXTRAORDINARY: Boy, 12, helps injured man following dangerous road accident in Radlett

Published on: 17th August 2021   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

A father and son helped deal with the aftermath of a bad accident in Radlett after arriving at the scene before the emergency services.

Sam Rolnick and his 12-year-old son, Jacob, were driving from Radlett to Borehamwood via Theobald Street at around 11am on Sunday, August 8, when they saw that a tree had fallen on a car, and the driver laid bloodied at the side of the road.

Sam explained: “As I stuck my traffic warning sign on the back of my car and called the police, Jacob had already raced to the attention of the man.

“The man was being tended to by another gent, but he didn’t seem to know too much about how to help.

“My son took control by asking the man, who was clearly in shock, whether he could speak and gave the other man instructions on various things to check. The injured man was very grateful to us.

“I didn’t even tell Jacob to help the man. I didn’t tell him anything – he just instinctively went over to help.

“I would never have asked him to go over because that’s a lot for a 12-year-old to deal with, but the fact that he did made me incredibly proud.”

Sam said he and Jacob left as soon as the emergency services arrived at the scene.

He added: “I was frustrated by all the drivers that arrived at the scene, clearly seeing that there was a tree on a car in the middle of the road with a fire engine close by, who just lingered about instead of turning around.

“Some people just stop and stare in these scenarios when in reality, if there’s nothing you can do, you just need to move straight on.”
