A young Chorleywood author has made a splash after self-publishing his debut novel Hades Forest.
Simon Elson, 20, from St Peters Way, has already amassed 1,000 sales in less than three months.
He said: “I’ve been absolutely delighted by the response. This number of sales so quickly is almost unheard of for any self-published novel – let alone my debut!”
Many readers of Hades Forest have been just as delighted. One recent review of the novel read: “The narrative quality of the author proves to be a success. Simon Elson dragged me deeper and deeper into his dark, capturing story for which I have only one word: bravo!”
But while some reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, others have been mixed.
Several readers have publicly criticised the graphic content and explicit scenes in the novel.
Simon added: “I knew that writing such a dark story would be a risk, but I wanted to be true to myself. I am not a violent person, but I enjoy exploring the implications of violence in my stories.
“A few people have been caught off-guard by the depravity in Hades Forest – and that’s why I have introduced an 18+ age restriction on purchasing it.
“Hades Forest is not for the squeamish, not for the faint-hearted, and certainly not for anyone under the age of 18.”
Hades Forest is available now on Amazon.
