Elderly resident stuck in her flat for weeks

Published on: 11th January 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

An elderly resident was left stuck in her flat for three weeks when the lift in her block of flats broke down.

Mother, Karen Goldhill, was “disgusted” and “furious” when contacting the managing agents who took so long to repair the lift.

She said: “My mother (Shelia) who is 79 and disabled lives in a block of flats where the lift has been out of action since Sunday, December 2, and neither the managing agents or the lift company seem bothered. There was no urgency on their part.

“I am furious about this as she has had to miss out on various trips etc.  She hasn’t been the only one affected but at least the other residents are able to use the stairs albeit slowly but my mother isn’t able to.”

The lift wasn’t fixed until the Friday before Christmas. Karen said things could’ve gone a lot worse if Shelia had to stay in her flat over Christmas. If it was, we would have had to come to her.

She added: “I’m disgusted and furious, the staff were so ignorant – they didn’t care and it cost us a lot of money as we had to pay for another carer so she could relive another one my mum has so she could get a break.”

Managing agents Warwick Estates fixed the lift on Friday, December 21, almost three weeks after the lift was first reported to be broken.

Karen said the overall care and urgency was poor from the company.

She added: “There has been excuse after excuse why it is taking so long meanwhile she has been stuck in her flat and not able to get out.

“The tone of them was awful. They were saying ‘you should expect this’ – the overall attitude was horrible. If the whole flat needed to use the lift then something would’ve been done quicker but as it was one person they didn’t seem to care.”

MyBusheyNews reached out to Warwick Estates for comment but they failed to respond at the time of going to print.
