ECO INITATIVE: Free Initiative Launched to Help Watford Businesses Reduce Carbon Use and Improve Sustainability

Published on: 7th December 2021   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Watford Borough Council and Sustainable X are today (Tuesday, December 7) launching the Watford Sustainable Business Programme.

The Watford Sustainable Business Programme is a ground-breaking programme that provides free, practical support to help Watford businesses take action in the fight against climate change and become more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.

From now until Spring 2022, Watford-based businesses can take part in this programme free of charge.

With a mix of workshops and one-to-one support, they will receive practical advice and information to help lower their carbon use and build sustainable practices into their business.

Participants will be guided through a structured programme that starts by measuring their carbon footprint and current practices, then uses business-focused tools and resources to identify actions and create achievable, long term plans.

Programme leaders Sustainable X will work with each business on a one-to-one basis.

They will also identify additional schemes or grants – up to the value of £5,000 – for projects that support ongoing improvements to the sustainable practices of the business.

On completion of the programme, businesses will be awarded with a Sustainable Watford Certificate.

They’ll also become part of a community of like-minded local businesses, keen to collaborate and learn from each other as they lead the way as sustainable businesses across Watford.

Elected Mayor Peter Taylor said: “We have a clear goal for Watford to be carbon neutral by 2030 and we know that local businesses want to help us reach this target. This programme is an incredible opportunity for Watford businesses to transform their approach to sustainability and take tangible steps to reduce their carbon footprint, making cost savings at the same time.”

Rondi Allan, Director at Sustainable X, said: “In our changing world, businesses want to be socially and environmentally responsible and customers, staff and suppliers expect them to do the right thing. This programme will help Watford businesses make positive changes that will benefit both the environment and their business, standing out as leaders in carbon reduction and sustainability.”

Nick Reilly, also Director at Sustainable X, added: “As well as helping tackle climate change, sustainable businesses have a competitive edge. Through this initiative, local businesses are going to learn how to reduce costs through energy and waste savings and even drive productivity by increasing efficiency.”
