‘EASE WAITING LISTS’: Council commits £1m to build affordable homes for residents in Croxley

Development contributions of £1million will be used to build affordable homes in Croxley.

Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) plans to demolish the former Red Cross building on Barton Way, next to the library, and build a new three-storey building, which carries forward the legacy of the former Red Cross building and continues to provide a focal point for community use within the village.

The proposal, which was worked on in partnership with Croxley Green Parish Council and Watford Community Housing, includes a new parish council office and community space on the ground floor and eight affordable flats on the first and second floors.

Following agreement at a Full Council meeting on Tuesday, December 9, TRDC will be committing £1million from section 106 ‘off-site’ affordable housing funding – a pot collected from other developments in the district that cannot include affordable homes in their respective schemes – to partially pay for the new flats.

Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE, Leader of TRDC, said: “Using funds we received from other developments in the district is a smart use of money that will help ease our housing waiting list when the flats are built.

“I look forward to when we submit the planning application as well as continuing our partnership work with Croxley Green Parish Council and Watford Community Housing.”
