‘DRAGGED OUT’: Residents label ‘chaotic’ road works in Bedmond a ‘complete disruption’

Fed up residents have branded the ‘chaotic’ road works taking place on Bedmond Road as a ‘complete disruption’ as the original four months of temporary traffic lights have extended an extra month.

The roadworks being taken out by Cadent Gas Network began on June 26 and as previously reported in AbbotsNews, were scheduled to finish on October 11, however, with no prior warning, have been extended to finish on November 29.

Jason, of Shirley Road, said: “The whole thing is a complete disruption, a journey that should take me no longer than 10 minutes from Abbots to Apsley takes 30 to 40 minutes and in some bad cases, up to an hour.

“It’s a disgrace, its been dragged out too long.”

A spokesperson for Cadent said: “We’re carrying out essential work to replace 800 metres of ageing gas mains along with service pipes which feed individual properties.

“This work will help ensure local residents keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating until the dawn of the 22nd century.

“Work has been carefully planned and it has been agreed with the local authority and we’re doing all we can to deliver the work as soon as possible with minimal inconvenience to the public.”
