A Chorleywood councillor clashed with the Leader of Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) over the Local Plan in a meeting last month.
On Tuesday, January 7, a full council meeting was held to discuss a proposal brought forward by the Conservatives, led by Chorleywood North & Sarratt councillor Oliver Cooper and Abbots Langley & Bedmond councillor Vicky Edwards.
The Liberal Democrats’ plan, which was agreed in December, would see a draft Local Plan completed by November this year.
The Conservatives’ proposal suggested speeding up the Local Plan process, as the lack of an up-to-date plan means it is easier for developers to build in the district. Cllr Cooper argued that submitting the plan to the national planning inspector for approval in February or March would block the target of 832 new homes per year set by the government.
Cllr Cooper said that the Conservatives wanted to “push through the low growth option” to “protect the green belt”.
Cllr Giles-Medhurst replied that the proposal brought forward by the Conservatives was “delusional”. He said that the proposal was no longer suitable as the number of homes it included to be built in Three Rivers by 2041 had fallen from 4,850 to 4,000 “because a number of sites have either come out or their numbers have been reduced”.
Cllr Cooper accused cllr Giles-Medhurst of “incompetence”.
Heading to Facebook, cllr Giles-Medhurst said he would not be commenting any further.
