‘DELIGHTED’: Amersham Museum given £72,000 grant to encourage interest in history

Amersham Museum has received a substantial grant from the Rothschild Foundation to support its three-year project, which will help new audiences to connect with local history.

The Rothschild Foundation, a local charity which supports arts and heritage, has bestowed £72,000 to Amersham Museum for its Creative Connections project.

Speaking to AMERSHAMnews, museum director Briony Hudson said: “I am absolutely delighted that the Rothschild Foundation is funding our Creating Connections project. For a small museum, it’s a very significant investment and an endorsement of our aims to offer a wider welcome to more people.

“Amersham Museum has a strong track record of supporting local history research and hosting local schools, but [the Creative Connections] project will allow us to develop new materials and new relationships for those interested in Amersham’s history.

“We hope to work with our collections and experienced local researchers to produce resources that help people starting out in family or local history, and to use this work to create new sessions and topics for school visits and learning in school.”

The museum currently runs a monthly lacemakers group and straw plaiting workshop. They now hope to channel funding into running a regular hub for professional makers in the area.
