Austrian defender Sebastian Prödl won the Graham Taylor Player of the Year award and the Watford FC end of year ceremony. The 29-year-old’s stand out performance was against Manchester United, when the Hornets defeated the Red Devils 3-1 at Vicarage Road. Prödl, who joined from German club Werden Bremen in 2015, was a mainstay in the Watford defence, playing 30 times and netting a goal. But goal of the season went to summer signing Roberto Pereyra, for his curled effort against former champions Leicester City at home back in November. Veteran goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was crowned Players’ player of the year after a string of fine displays to sometimes save the Hertfordshire-based club precious points in their bid to survive the drop. And Watford’s greatest win of the season was their shock victory at The Emirates Stadium as withstood second half pressure from Arsenal to defeat the Gunners 2-1.
