A mass was recently held at St Albans Cathedral to celebrate the career of a local headteacher.
Máire Lynch has retired from her role as headteacher at Loreto College after 22 years.
To mark the occasion, a service was held at the cathedral, in which the former head was described as “a remarkable person, who has led with great fortitude and integrity”.
Lucy Thompson has taken over the reins as headteacher, having previously worked at La Retraite Roman Catholic Girls’ School in the Clapham Park area of London.
A spokesperson for the school said: “Loreto College occupies a significant place in the heart of the city, and both its site and staff have naturally undergone many changes over the years with one major exception: Mrs Lynch, who has been at the helm for nearly a quarter of its life.
“She will be deeply missed, but never was a retirement more richly deserved. Mrs Lynch’s unwavering commitment to Loreto College and its foundress Mary Ward has paved the way for the next hundred years.”
