A councillor has criticised Transport for London (TfL) for recurrent flooding in Amersham.
During the winter when rainfall increases, chaos often ensues across the town, particularly on Rectory Hill. Throughout October and November, residents shared their photos of the flooded road, with cars struggling to pass through.
Councillor Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire Council, responded to residents on the yourAmersham Facebook page and said: “There have been a number of comments about the flooding under the railway bridge on Rectory Hill in Amersham. A car is (again) stuck after trying to drive through very deep flood water.
“We believe that the drainage was damaged by contractors working for TfL. The cost of repair is large, and it is not appropriate that the cost falls on local Council Tax payers.
“Extensive surveys have needed to be carried out as part of a long-running legal dispute with TfL. This is now resolved, and I won’t be going into details here but the result is a good one.
“The drainage is scheduled to be repaired early next year.”
TfL has been contacted for comment.
