Over the last 35 years, Herts KDS has been more than a karate club, acting also as a lifeline for residents to find confidence, friendship and focus through movement.
On October 4 and 5, members from around the county gathered at Hatfield Sports Hall to celebrate the club’s journey with classes and workshops.
Bushey KDS instructor Richard Plaskow told BUSHEYnews: “The theme of the weekend was to understand how to connect the different areas of your body with mobility and strength.
“The fact the club has been going on so long is a testament to our members.”
Now, Richard and his team are on a mission to help improve mental and physical health for young people by inviting members aged 15-plus to join.
Thanks to councillor Marc Amron and Hertsmere Borough Council, funding will support new equipment, social events, and a six-week teen beginners’ course launching in January.
Richard added: “It is important to communicate with kids to help them learn more about managing themselves. You are joining a family, and I think that is pretty special.”
