A local St Albans resident, Victoria Edwards, took to social media to encourage people to sign her petition to stop fatal crashes around the Park Street roundabout area.
The petition was created to combat car accidents following a number of fatalities.
Other residents posted on social media calling for the roundabout to be traffic light controlled, which encouraged Vicky to create the petition.
A previous petition was made in April 2019 but only received 50 signatures.
A number of accidents come from crashes to the rear of cars or due to people not using the inside and outside lanes correctly.
Other people complained that the roads leading up to the roundabouts like the A414, were too fast and needed tighter speed restrictions.
The petition was met by some criticism who believed that traffic lights were not going to solve the issue at hand, but it was due to poor drivers being the result of the high number of crashes.
The petition is available to view at democracy.hertfordshire.gov.uk ‘Install Traffic Lights at the Park Street Roundabout.
Who Criticised that Traffic lights will not reduce Accidents.
Traffic lights make roads much safer than round about.
Majority of the countries in the world have no Round Abouts. Some past British colonial countries in Africa have replaced Round abouts with Traffic lights.
Round abouts also encourage road rage
Thank you Victoria Edwards
You have said the right thing, Traffic lights must be installed at the Park street round about.
I believe council does not want to spend our Road tax and other tax money on traffic lights. They are not bothered about number of accidents or Inconvenience to the public.
Will Hertfordshire county council ever consider installing traffic lights at Park Street Roundabout. It has been called the most dangerous roundabout.
There are lights at the other end of London Colney Roundabout so why there are no traffic lights at Park street roundabout.
