A retired opera singer from Chorleywood has been emotionally reunited with her former student, who has now gone on to become an internationally renowned pianist.
Ruth Winter, a 90-year-old retired opera singer from Chorleywood was reunited with 21-year-old Rhys Concessao, a successful global pianist whom she taught.
Rhys, who began taking singing lessons with Ruth at the age of ten, credits her and her late husband, pianist John Winter, for contributing to his now successful international career.
The pair reunited in September after Rhys made a journey from Russia, where he now lives, studying at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow under the esteemed Professor Eliso Virsaladze. Rhys has performed across America, India, and Europe.
Rhys said: “They always encouraged me to grow, whether through new music suggestions or personal gifts like CDs chosen with such care. Their warmth and support gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams.”
Ruth said: “John would have been so proud. Seeing his success is a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact we hoped to have on our students.”
