A young athlete from Tring has reached new heights in the cycling world.
Leon Atkins, a student at Tring School, has collected a series of accolades and awards over the last few years in road and track, cyclo-cross and mountain biking events.
He is now an 11-time GB champion across several events.
The 16-year-old cyclist represented Great Britain in the National Omnium Championships in July 2024, where he secured one point off first place. He also competed in the British National Track Championships in August 2024, where he set a new national record and an unofficial world record.
In December, Leon attended the UCI World Cup in Dublin, where he trained with the Olympic Development Road and Track Squad. He secured a respectable 18th place amongst the 34 other cyclists from across the globe.
Heading to his social media after the event, Leon said: “Very happy to walk away with 18th at Dublin having started on the back row! Really enjoyed the race and the fast course.
“Massive thanks to British Cycling for the support and help at the event.”
A spokesperson from Tring School posted on X: “Well done to Leon A, who has been training hard with the Olympic Development Road and Track Squad at the Manchester Velodrome.”
