Croxley Green scouts: a hut above the rest

Published on: 20th October 2017   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

Croxley Green Scout Group’s plans to upgrade their meeting place could be close to reality thanks to a £2,000 grant from Watford’s Round Table. Each year the Round Table supports Watford Mencap and local charities through the Watford 10K run through Cassiobury Park. This year, the fundraising will help the Watford Road-based group, who each week sees over 100 young people between 6 and 14 taking part in everyday adventures. The Group – which was formed in 1909 – is slowly refurbishing its hut to become an asset the whole community can use.  Last year it successfully installed a new professional kitchen, and last month staff from Croxley-based company GTECH gave up a Saturday morning to re-paint the meeting hall. Now a boost of £2,000 from the Round Table will be put towards updating the toilet block, as part of a larger programme which will see the building becoming fully accessible. Vice-chair of Watford Round Table, Steve Forester, said:  “The Scout Group is a great organisation and we are pleased to help them in reaching their target.   At the same time, we are looking for new members to join us to contribute even more to our local area.” Acting Group Scout Leader Geoff Hall added:  “We are very grateful for the Round Table’s contribution, which will help us continue providing facilities for young people to experience the excitement of Scouting. He added: “The Group is always looking for projects that our members can put something back into the community, and we’re so very pleased the Round Table have been able to contribute something to us.” Picture by Len Kerswill
