A resident recently invited two political figures to Rickmansworth Aquadrome to discuss the continued closure of a path.
Initially closed due to seasonal flooding, the path has now been closed for over a year. More than 750 people have since signed a petition urging for the path to be reopened.
Last month, resident Paul Harding invited Gagan Mohindra, MP for South West Hertfordshire, and Rickmansworth Town councillor Mike Sims to the Aquadrome.
Mr Mohindra MP said: “It saddens me to see such a beautiful area of our Aquadrome being covered in unsightly fencing. I’m concerned that Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) is taking the easy option of closing pathways… rather than investing in repairing them. It should be a priority to keep the pathways open and well-maintained.”
Paul claimed that a new mowed pathway suggests an improvised solution has now been found.
He said: “You can’t make this stuff up! And it’s crazy that TRDC ignores over 700 people signing a petition to reopen the path and now they encourage people to ignore their own restrictions. TRDC, please apply some common sense and open the pathway!”
Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of TRDC, said: “The council is totally committed to reopening this path safely, and is focused on a long-term solution to do just that. We have already secured external funds for pathway repairs, which will be informed by a hydrological study.
“Whilst we understand the frustrations of those who want to walk along the path, we need this study to be completed to help provide a long-term solution for all.
“We have always kept councillors, local groups, Aquadrome users and residents fully informed – and we will continue to do so. I thank visitors for their patience and understanding.”
