Fire engines from Garston were among those sent to a scrapyard fire in Oakridge Lane, Aldenham at around 2pm yesterday afternoon.
They were joined by crews from Borehamwood, Watford, St Albans and Potters Bar as the incident was escalated because of the amount of smoke coming from the blaze. It’s believed that fuel and gas bottles were being stored on the site.
Crews reported that the fire could be seen from as far away as London and warned those living in close proximity to the blaze to keep doors and windows closed to avoid inhaling the fumes.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
