The Abbots Langley Crafty Ladies have launched a community challenge to raise £5,000 for the Starfish Children’s Ward at Watford General Hospital.
The money raised will be used to refurbish a cubicle and create a more private and comfortable environment for children to use during their treatment.
The group has already raised £3,300 through a number of events, including a dinner at La Banq and a silent auction for a Watford FC football signed by legends Graham Taylor OBE, Sir Elton John CBE, and Luther Blissett OBE.
The Crafty Ladies are now inviting local schools, clubs, and groups to help them reach their £5,000 target. They are encouraging the community to organise simple fundraisers such as cake sales, raffles, or non-uniform days, or even add a small donation to the price of a coffee.
Alison Warner, from the Abbots Langley Crafty Ladies, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the support so far, and we’re so close to reaching our goal. We know how creative our community is, and we’re calling on everyone to get involved. Whether it’s a bake sale, a raffle, or something completely new, every little bit helps us create a more comforting space for these brave children and their families.”
Alison Rosen, CEO of West Herts Hospitals Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Abbots Langley Crafty Ladies for their ongoing support and creativity in raising vital funds for our hospitals. Their dedication to improving the lives of our young patients is truly inspiring, and we’re excited to see the community come together to support this wonderful cause.”
