Two Berkhamsted Cricket Club (BCC) teams have been crowned county champions.
The best young cricketers from across Hertfordshire vied for silverware in the dramatic Herts Junior Finals on Sunday, July 16.
The BCC’s serial winners, the U13s Diamond Girls, came up against Bishop’s Stortford at Cokenach. A blistering innings saw the local team score 105 runs from 100 balls, only losing one wicket.
Mark Lewarne, head of junior cricket at BCC, said: “Our U13 girls’ team has now been county champions for three years in a row! The team has six players who either represent Herts or Bucks at a county level.”
Also emerging as champions was the U12s boys’ team, who played Wheathampstead at Hatfield Hyde on the same day. The boys scored 85-6 with Wheathampstead 84 all out.
Mark said: “They have enjoyed an unbeaten season in the league. The team features two boys who are refugees from Afghanistan. There are three families of Afghan refugees currently playing cricket for BCC and they are all very passionate about the game.”
