CONTROVERSIAL: Hertsmere People’s Liberation Front targets environmental change

Published on: 9th December 2019   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

Secretive local residents’ protest group, The Hertsmere People’s Liberation Front (HPLF) has released a new YouTube video in which it bemoans “environmental crimes against the borough and the planet”.

In the quirky video, labelled ‘The Hertsmere Chainsaw Massacre’, the group is protesting against plans, currently under consultation by Hertsmere Borough Council, to set out where homes can be created in the borough over the next 15 years, which includes some sites on Green Belt land. The council also claims the plans will increase the local population by 25 per cent.

The threatened sites featured in the video include Aldenham Reservoir, land near The Ridgeway, conservation area next to Aldenham School, Porters Park Golf Club and Cecil’s Horse Sanctuary in Elstree.

The short HPLF video, uploaded on December 6, features typically dramatic visuals from the group which has adopted Guy Fawkes masks as a means of staying anonymous. At one point, a ‘comrade’ is dressed as Batman and holds a sign reading: ‘Save my family too’, in reference to green belt sites that are inhabited by bats.

They also criticise the council’s “hypocrisy” due to its recent ‘climate emergency motion’.
