Conman ordered to pay or stay in jail

Published on: 20th October 2017   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

A mortgage fraudster from Northwood who was sentenced to five years imprisonment last year has been told to pay back £20,000 or risk another year in jail.

Jaspal Singh Juttla, of Mallard Way was issued with a confiscation order at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday, January 13. During the confiscation hearing, the court started proceedings against him to confiscate all the proceeds of his criminal conduct, which totals more than £683,000. At the end of the confiscation hearing, Juttla was ordered to repay over £20,000. The amount must be paid within 12 weeks, with 12 months further imprisonment if he defaults on the payment. This means that his outstanding debt to his victims will not disappear and any future assets may be subject to seizure. Detective Constable Anita Sharma from the Met’s Specialist, Organised and Economic Crime Command said: “To feed his gambling habit and the need for luxury goods, Juttla gained the trust from members of his own community and then conned them out of their hard earned cash. “His greed soon got the better of him, losing the majority of the money through his gambling habit. Juttla has not only lost the money he gained illegally, but also his honour and dignity within his community. “I hope this confiscation order sends out a strong message to those who think that they can fund a luxury lifestyle through criminal means. The police will go through your finances and use every power available to us to seize your assets under the Proceeds of Crime Act, even after you have served your time in jail.” For more on this story see the next edition of My Northwood & Moor Park News out on February 20…..
