Published on: 17th August 2023   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Two Northwood schools have secured a superb set of A-level results today (Thursday, August 17).

There was a buzz in the Merchant Taylors’ exam hall this morning this year’s A Level results were distributed. Eight boys received four A*s, and 19 boys were awarded three or more A*s. More than half the year group were awarded at least one A* and 74 pupils (50 per cent) received only A* or A grades.

Headmaster Simon Everson said: “We are very proud of the boys’ efforts in securing an excellent set of results. The reset of national assessment to 2019 levels did not hold the boys back from the highest grades and they deserve great credit for their achievement. It was the result of a huge amount of hard work both from them and their teachers. We wish our leavers all the very best as they head off to university.”

Meanwhile, St Helen’s School has also been celebrating.

Sixty-four per cent of all results were graded as A* and A (up from 45 per cent in 2019) and 85 per cent were A*-B (compared to 76 per cent in 2019). The girls have secured places at universities across the UK to study a wide range of courses, including sociology at Durham, law at Cambridge, French and Russian at Oxford, chemistry at Imperial, and modern languages at Birmingham. In addition, ten students have secured places on Medical degrees which are in extremely high demand this year.

Acting head Neelam Varma commented: “We are absolutely delighted with these results and so proud of all that our Year 13 students have achieved in what was their first-ever set of public examinations. They have experienced much disruption to their education due to the pandemic and have demonstrated incredible resilience. Their grades truly reflect their hard work and commitment, as well as that of their superb teachers. We wish our students all the very best for their next adventures and look forward to hearing about their future achievements.”
