A former office worker from Chorleywood has swapped her desk for trading Pokémon cards.
Chloe Webb, 31, has shared her fascinating story of running Collector’s Cardhouse in Chorleywood, a collectibles shop that specialises in Pokémon cards.
Chloe and her husband Harry first began trading the cards online, but the duo joined forces with Youtuber Dean Leander – AKA PokeDean – to open the shop on Lower Road in April last year.
She also shares videos on her YouTube channel, called PokiChloe, which now has more than 100,000 subscribers. She livestreams working at the shop and shares her experiences at events.
The store is often busy and has received visits from famous YouTubers and collectors such as CooltrainerRyan and RandolphUK who runs Ace Grading.
Speaking to the BBC, Chloe said: “I live, breathe, and eat Pokémon. Every week, we have an international visitor – Japan, America, United Arab Emirates. I’ve made so many friends all over the world, which is crazy to me because I never used to leave my little bubble when I had a normal job.”
The Pokémon enthusiast explained how the team send their cards to a grading company that analyses for signs of wear, before grading the card out of 10.
She discussed some of her craziest stories, saying: “We had a Charizard that was graded a 10. It was a special card that was given out to employees at Creatures, who own Pokémon. I think there’s only 300 of them… we sold it for just under £40,000.”
Chloe explained that visitors usually turn up to the shop with huge binders filled with cards.
She continued: “If you’d asked me about this five years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it. I used to work in an office, and now this is my life… So, as long as people enjoy it, I’m going to keep doing it.”
