A member of Radlett Reform Synagogue (RRS) has been knighted in His Majesty the King’s Birthday Honours.
Sir Robert Behrens, who is a former Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO), was recognised for public service.
He served as ombudsman from 2017 to 2024. In that time, he oversaw the development of a ground-breaking ombudsman accreditation programme, brought in new complaint standards for the government and the NHS, and introduced mediation into PHSO’s range of services.
Rob also contributed to the development of the new benchmark for ombudsman independence and effectiveness known as The Venice Principles.
Rob said: “I never looking for praise or limelight, so the knighthood came as a complete surprise.”
Speaking to Radlettnews, Rabbi Paul Freedman, from RRS, said: “We are thrilled for Rob that he has received this well-deserved honour. He and his wife, Debbie, have been active members of the synagogue for nearly 40 years and the whole community wishes them huge congratulations.”
