COMMUNITY CHIPPY: Abbots Langley chip shop makes finals for national takeaway awards

Published on: 20th October 2019   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

A popular fish and chip shop in Abbots Langley will hopefully take away something exciting for themselves soon as they’ve been nominated for a prestigious national award.

The Lighthouse, based at 18 School Mead, have been named finalists for the British Takeaway Awards (BTA), which aims to “Pay homage to the unsung heroes of the takeaway sector who work tirelessly to serve us our favourite takeaway dishes across Great Britain.”

The competition selected five finalists from each region last month and The Lighthouse will hope to top the Greater London area when the competition concludes on January 27, 2020. Judges at the event, which will be held at The Savoy, London, will then compare the 12 regional winners and choose an overall winner to pick up the grand prize – £5,000. Regional winners get £1,000 each.

The Lighthouse is owned by Jody Styles and his wife, Sarah.

Jody, 45, who opened the shop seven years ago, said: “This is the first time we’ve been nominated and we’re extremely proud and grateful to all our brilliant customers.

“It’s a phenomenal achievement. Our team has worked incredibly hard to get to this point, so to get rewarded like this means the world.

“We’re up against some of the best takeaways in the country, so winning it won’t be easy – but we’ve focussed really hard on getting the best products, producing the best food possible for our customers, so we have to believe. Getting to this stage is amazing in itself.

“I’ve lived in Kings Langley for pretty much my entire life, so to be able to serve the community good food for the past few years has been a real pleasure for me. So many customers have come in to congratulate us on getting to the finals, which has been lovely to experience.”
