An aspiring F1 driver from St Albans recently showed off his kart away from the track during an event at his school featuring a famous racing driver.
On July 6 Joshua Bugembe, 11, invited his fellow pupils at St Columba’s College to learn more about racing from none other than SVG Motorsport team member Toby Trice.
Racing since he was about nine years old Joshua has gone on to finish on the podium on several occasions and wanted to share his passion at school.
Delina said since Joshua registered in club rounds he has gone from strength to strength with the school supporting him along the way.
She said: “As a newcomer he had a lot of losses and accidents but he has started attracted a lot of interest.
“He went in the same season in 2021 from coming last to six weeks in a row to podiums.
“He has a knack for losing people and his coach said, ‘For the whole of the career I’ve only ever seen three people do that’.”
Mr Richard McCann, head of St Columba’s Prep School says: “We were blessed to have a visit from none other than Toby Trice to talk about his passion for motorsport and he even brought his high-speed car to show the children.
“He gave a fascinating insight into top level racing and was joined by our up-and-coming star Joshua Bugembe, who said his dream was to follow in the footsteps of his hero Lewis Hamilton. Our children had an opportunity to ask searching questions about every aspect of motorsport and the commitment and sacrifices needed to make it in such a competitive environment.”
Delina added that they are hoping to secure sponsorship for Joshua as he continues to progress in his career.
