COMMUNITY CHAMPS: Abbots Langley group continues to support adults with learning difficulties

Published on: 31st January 2024   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

This month, ABBOTSnews spoke to the chairman of The Monday Club about the amazing work they are doing in the local community.

The club was formed in 1988 by a group of parents of children with learning difficulties. Every week, it enables people over the age of 16 to come together so they can spend time with others and take part in a variety of activities, including bingo, ping pong, crafting and more.

The group meets at 7pm every Monday during term time at Abbots Langley Community Centre.

The club is not-for-profit and relies on the funds of donors and the work of volunteers.

Some of the volunteers are the parents who helped to form the group who are now in their 80s. A number of Sixth Formers from Parmiter’s School also volunteer at the group.

Chairman Debbie says that current members range in age from early 20s to 70s.

She added: “It’s a really lovely mix of ages and a great social evening where members can relax and chat with their friends.”

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the club will be holding their first mocktails and music evening on February 5. Find out more at www.themondayclub.org.uk
