COMEBACK COMPLETE: St Albans City come from behind to beat Ebbsfleet United

St Albans City have continued their strong start to the season after coming from two goals behind to beat Ebbsfleet United 3-2.

The Saints found themselves two goals down inside 30 minutes, before managing to pull things back before half time. Shaun Jeffers then scored his second of the game in what proved to be the match’s winner before the hour mark to snatch all three points.

Ebbsfleet went ahead on the 20th minute mark after they were awarded a penalty when goalkeeper Michael Johnson brought down Reece Grant in the box which allowed Rakish Bingham to smash the ball into the net.

Just seven minutes later, Grant beat the offside trap and found himself one-on-one with Johnson, and his shot was expertly finished beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.

St Albans pulled one back on the 38th minute after Devante Stanley whipped in a cross which found Weiss, and he steered the ball into the net to get the Saints back in the game.

Two minutes later Shaun Jeffers equalised after his effort was squeezed under Ebbsfleet’s goalkeeper.

Jeffers added his second and St Albans’ third to completely turn the game on its head just before the hour mark.

After eight minutes of injury time, St Albans City managed to hold on to the three points to continue their unbeaten start to the Vanarama National League South.

It’s back to FA Cup action for the Saints next as they travel to Bishop’s Stortford for the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round next Saturday.
