A Parkinson’s café has been set up at Riverside Lodge care home in Rickmansworth to offer help, support and community connections to those living with and affected by the disease.
To date, the care home has run three Parkinson’s sessions and staff have been amazed by the turnout.
The sessions run from 2.30pm to 4pm on the fourth Friday of every month.
Sarah Pratt, customer relationship manager at Riverside Lodge, was keen to open a Parkinson’s café in Rickmansworth to support members of the local community after discovering that the nearest Parkinson’s support group was in Watford.
At the meetings, Sarah provides a variety of Parkinson’s-related information and literature.
The team at Riverside have also set up a dementia café that runs from 11am to 12.30pm on the second Wednesday of the month.
Speaking to RICKYnews, Sarah said: “We just want to show people that they aren’t alone.
“People who are at home who live with or have a partner with memory loss or Parkinson’s should just come along and have coffee, to do something nice and have a break.”
