BrOOKs bookstore in Pinner has announced today (Thursday, March 18) that it will not be reopening.
The bookshop posted a statement on Facebook explaining that trading restrictions over the lockdowns, lack of government grants and “eye-wateringly large” rent expectations from landlords have made it impossible to continue to run the store in the current location.
The statement read: “It is with immense sadness that we can now announce that BrOOK’S will not be reopening in Pinner. We originally wanted to prove our idea of a new style independent bookshop which we feel we have done, albeit under the most testing circumstances. We became London Independent Bookshop of the Year for 2020 so customers and teams must have created somewhere quite special.
“We have agreed for a new business to take over our site so it will not be empty for long and we will start looking for the new permanent home of BrOOK’s.
“Could we also please thank every one of you who have supported BrOOKs over the last, what is now nearly three years… We will miss the buzz and laughter, the smiles and chat, the inspiring authors and brilliant wine evenings. Our team has been amazing, as have our suppliers and we have loved working with so many local schools and groups. Keep reading!”
BrOOKs statement has received hundreds of messages of support from residents, who are sad to hear the news and called the store an asset to the community that will be sorely missed.
